Join the Museum’s Curator of Collections Lisa Shockley for a guided conversation around two portraits painted by Welsh artist Margaret Lindsay Williams.

After the death of Ella Long in 1928, Robert A. Long commissioned well-known portrait painter Margaret Williams to paint portraits of both Ella and himself. While Ella’s was painted from a photograph, it is believed that Mr. Long posed at least once for his. At the time, Williams was one of the most distinguished painters in Great Britain. She painted the first-ever portraits of Prince (now King) Charles and Princess Anne, as well as at least five of Queen Elizabeth II. Her portrait of U. S. President Warren G. Harding is the most commonly reproduced image of him to date.
