Michael Carr, Retail Manager
Michael has more than 25 years of experience in the specialty retail field. He is a native of Kansas City and holds a bachelor’s degree in communication and a minor in History from Pepperdine University. Upon graduating, Michael returned to Kansas City in 1989 and started working at Halls, a specialty retailer on the Country Club Plaza. He spent 23+ years working and managing in the home departments of the famed local retailer until the store closed its doors in 2014. At this time, he started volunteering at the Kansas City Museum giving hard hat tours and working some of the Museum’s special events. It was during this time that Michael started working at the Kansas City Marriott Downtown managing their executive lounge.
Michael joined the Kansas City Museum as a staff member when the Museum reopened in October 2021, after the multiyear renovation of Corinthian Hall. While at the Museum he has held a couple of positions as the Visitor Experience Manager and now currently the Retail Manager and buyer for Wisteria, the Museum’s boutique.
Michael, a former equestrian hobbyist and lover of history, was drawn to the Kansas City Museum because of its unique blend of equestrian, Gilded Age, Kansas City and Social Justice history. He enjoys introducing the many visitors to the Museum of our history and buying and selling the many unique items offered in Wisteria.
Michael is a lifelong student of history that enjoys reading, running, yoga, and hanging out with friends and family outside of work.
