Kansas City Dreamin’ is award winning filmmaker Diallo Javonne French’s documentary about the African American music history and culture of our city. It features interviews with Melissa Etheridge, Oleta Adams, Bobby Watson, Tech N9ne, Oscar winner Kevin Willmott, and many more. With segments on Janelle Monae, Charlie Parker, Count Basie, Big Joe Turner, Mary Lou Williams, Bloodstone, Marva Whitney, and Lo-Key, Kansas City Dreamin’ illustrates how Kansas City’s incomparable jazz legacy lives on.
The film screened in Los Angeles at the Pan African Film Festival to a sold-out audience last year. Diallo Javonne French who is also a prolific jazz photographer and talented musician will give an artist’s talk following the film. Please join us for this visual celebration of Jazz Appreciation Month!
