Join the Museum’s Curator of Collections Lisa Shockley for a guided conversation centered around a dress that once belonged to Phoebe (Mrs. Henry) Ess (1850-1934). A schoolteacher by training, after her marriage to Kansas City attorney Henry Ess she became known as the
“Dean of Missouri Clubwomen” for her efforts at promoting women’s education and philanthropic activities. She was the first woman to run for public office in Kansas City and is buried in Elmwood Cemetery.
