Join the Museum’s Curator of Collections Lisa Shockley for a guided conversation discussing the time capsule originally placed in the cornerstone of the Thacher School.
Thacher School was built at 5008 Independence Avenue in 1900. Designed by architect Charles A. Smith, it was named after a Civil War officer and KCMO School Board member Major L. K. Thacher. The school served the Northeast neighborhood until 2010, and when the building was demolished in 2015, this box was discovered in the cornerstone.
